My boyfriend and I moved 3 states away at the drop of a hat and are barely scraping by working full time jobs to help his mother survive. She is a great lady and it is visibly difficult for her to accept gifts and help, mainly because she has always had money. He husband got sick and couldn't work and unfortunately passed. All three of us are struggling together but it is getting better. My boyfriend is driving his dads piece of shit old el Camino while his mom is driving his nice new car because hers got repossessed. Now he wants a new car. This is where were butting heads - he wants his mom (who's almost finished with her bankruptcy) to refinance his car (that she doesn't really like) so that he can finance a new one. She doesn't know any better, she will take his advice. The thing is he owes $6000 more then it's worth. I think it is selfish and terrible of him to expect his mom to finance and pay his negative equity. He thinks it's owed to him because he's taking care of her and she technically hasn't said no (but again, she doesn't know better, she's in her late 50s and her husband did everything for her.) Do you think it's shitty of him to do that?!?! I do!
