Lipsss 👄💋💄 (the ones on your face)

So I was wondering if anyone had any tips for lipstick/gloss colour. I've recently really gotten into wearing make up but when I try to wear dark pink or red it really doesn't suit me. I am somewhat pale but darker than Emma Roberts with brown hair and blue eyes if that helps. Should I perhaps go for lighter shades? I've just read quite a few posts and know that there's so many of you who do your make up amazingly. I don't particularly like trying the testers in shops. Should I go to somewhere like Mac and ask for their opinion too? Just would love some advice please no stupid comments 👌🏻
