What's worse??

In the eyes of the law, which is considered to be worse? I know they are both bad and there are many different situations and factors that play into each charge but I'm just curious to see what others say.

As far as legality I don't know which is considered to be worse but I'd assume (and in my eyes) I believe assault is worse. When I think of harassment I think of someone arguing or annoying/bullying someone online/phone/text or not leaving them alone. Sometimes I feel people get charged with harassment when there's nothing else police can charge them with. Not saying that people don't very well harass people I just think it's a very broad charge. When I see assault I think of someone physically harming or getting into a physical altercation with someone or attacking them in some way. Neither harassment or assault is okay to do but putting your hands on someone looks worse in my opinion...

Answer

Assault in legal terms is creating apprehension in another person that you will do some harm to them. To me, it is on par with harassment, but harassment connotes a pattern.
