Thoughts about perineal massage??

I'm getting closer to delivery (35 wks) and am getting nervous about tearing. Anyone have any thoughts about this??

Every time I think about this I think of the movie "Baby Mama" when the birth class instructer says "masawge da pawineeum with EVOO" and I just can't even... 😂

It's recommended. I read the Bradley Method for Natural Childbirth with my first born. I delivered him vaginally and pain med free. I did the exercises recommended and massages and learned about breathing through contractions. I recommend it. It's a good read

I'm TERIFIED of tearing! Nothing else about having a child scares me for some reason. My husband promised me he would take care of the perineal massage. He's the best! Haha he has already googled it and printed out an article 😂

I never did this before I was in labor but the nurse did it the whole time I was in labor and pushing and I needed ZERO stitches! I definately recommend it!

Another good way to avoid tearing is to labor on all fours or some other position (not on your back!).

My midwife uses olive oil and aloe Vera to massage the perineum during labor - apparently it drastically reduces tearing, and often prevents it entirely.

I did it with my first and even though she came out quick and my Dr argued with me while i was pushing, insisting that i would tear badly and I *had* to let her cut me, i said no, and i didn't tear at all. I felt normal just hours later, put on my regular clothes and wanted to go home! :)

Hubby and I use coconut oil during sex....that's basically the same thing I think...
