Would you let older 14yo sibling hold/carry newborn?

My oldest nephew will be 6 when baby is born and plan to let him hold our son when sitting and closely supervised. If the 14 year old doesn't have much experience, then do what you're comfortable with at first.

I babysat my infant brothers when I was 11. A 14yr old should be able to handle it.

My niece is 14 and looks after her baby brother who is less than a year old. She's so good with him

I let my little brother hold my son. He was 15 and very aware of everything around him. He was super careful and seeing them together nearly made my heart burst. ☺️

Can you take her to a baby care class with you? Then you both might feel more comfortable...

I was 10 and 13 when my siblings were born and carried them all the time and babysat them from birth. At 14 I'd say yes, but I know what you're feeling! My step daughter will be 8 when baby is born and I swear I'm gonna have a nervous breakdown thinking about her holding her!!! She is super clumsy anyway, literally fell out of a chair while sitting still two days ago and falls down while standing still! It stresses me out thinking about her holding/trying to pick up my brand new baby!

Totally agree with all these ladies, I think you're worrying too much. My oldest were 9 & 11 when my third was born. I swear she prefers them now. Now 18 months later my 3rd is almost a permanent fixture on my oldest's hip.

At 14 your older daughter certainly has the awareness and coordination to hold an infant.

14 year Olds seem to be having babies themselves anymore so I think you're safe with the sibling holding the baby :)  just feel it out when she's holding the baby if you want her up and walking around or not
