When did you know you were ready to lose your virginity?

My boyfriend and I are both 17 and we really love eachother a lot. We have both said we want to have sex, but it's hard to find any alone time especially since he lives far away, and I only see him maybe every two weeks. We have been together about 5 months. And we have been friends for like 4 years. How did you know you were ready? Do you think I'm ready?

There will come a day when you just know, that's what happened to me. The more my SO was sweet and patient and never pressured me at all and never made me feel stupid for being inexperienced, the more sure I was that I wanted to lose it to him. I wouldn't say you should have absolutely no doubts or hesitations because to me that means you don't appreciate  the weight of what you're doing. It will be a tiny bit nerve-wracking, just like when you try anything for the first time. Sex is one of the most vulnerable things we can do with each other, there are emotional and physical risks. It sounds like you're well aware of those things though, so I'd say you're about ready. But no one can tell you for sure, it's something you have to know yourself. Just make sure you're safe, please! Get yourself some birth control, that is a must! And if you feel comfortable talking to your mom about this at all then I would highly recommend that.
