Dilating without spotting?

Question

I had a sweep today, after having consistent contractions all night last night between 4-7min apart. I'm 40w today and have yet to have any spotting. Midwife said to expect some and that in labor spotting indicates dilation. I'm 70% effaced and just ready to get on with this. Just want to know what to look for

I never got spotting with 3 of my labors and dilated just fine. With my 4th spotted for 3 days before labor with mucous and blood (only dilated to 3) but in actual labor had no bleeding at all. It is a good hint but not necessarily a for sure you will have it :)
