Why is their such a big debate about Santa?

I always believed in Santa when I was growing up. I had small presents from Santa and the main presents from my parents. That means I did appericate what my parents were buying me.
People say that they don't want their child to be sad when they find out Santa isn't real. They are sad for about a week then they move on. People say that it ruins the true meaning of Christmas. They are kids they don't need to understand yet. It's part of growing up to have an imagination

My little cousin (8 years old) just found out Santa wasn't real. I was about that age too. So sad. :(
But I'm almost 22 now and I still have my parents write "From Santa" on presents, I write "from Santa's little elf" on my presents, and I still put out milk and cookies. It's fun. 😀🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

I remember when I was in second grade I swore that Santa was real. I always hated the kids that said he was fake. Such party poopers. I will definitely encourage my kids to believe in Santa. It's just a fun concept to get into the Christmas spirit.

I agree. I will always deny that Santa doesn't exist. Of course he does!! I'm almost 30 and my Mother still won't admit Santa isn't real. He still comes to me at her house lol. It's special, and I don't ever remember being dissapointed he wasn't real.

Because everyone feels the need to complain about everyone else. In my house, we are Christian we go to church and Santa brings us all our gifts on December 25. Maybe my neighbor is Jewish, maybe my best friend is atheist, maybe they celebrate Christmas maybe not, I really don't care and think other's should try it sometime and we all could live a happier life.

My nearly 2 year old despises Santa so we have told her he isn't real, I'm not going to lie to my children telling them someone is real when they're not.

The big debate is usually because not everyone believes in telling their kids Santa is real, and those who DO believe in telling their kids that Usually can't respect that not everyone gets into Santa. (Huge gasp at all the Santa disbelievers! )

People believe in different things and for some Christmas is NOT about Santa,  yet those people (adults & children) still go on to have wonderful imaginations and contribute to an amazing holiday spirit. Their lives are still wonderful sans Santa.

Santa is simply not an important aspect of Christmas for some people. People Who dont get into santa won't tell their kids he is real just because others tell their kids he is.

Many people believe the kids who believe in santa hold more important beliefs ,so they fear those kids who dont believe in santa will be buttholes for telling other children they dont believe he is real (God forbid some don't share the same Christmas beliefs as many -_-), that theyll lack imagination, or be miserable throughout the holidays, etc. Etc....all lies. But they want the kids who dont believe santa is real to keep it to themselves -_- so there you have your grounds for the debate.

I'm probably not going to make Santa a big deal with my child. Why perpetuate a lie that was designed by businesses to make me buy more crap at Christmas time? (the current image of Santa was created by Coca-Cola) 
To me, (as an Australian atheist, so no thanksgiving for me) Christmas is meant to be about family, it's a great reason to get everyone together for a meal, and some quality time at the end of the year. It's not about buying presents, it's not about religion, it's not about listening to kitschy songs, it's a time to come together.

IMHO same thing with the tooth fairy 😉my parents gave us 5-8 bucks per tooth! Was very exciting for us! The prices have gone up since my sister has lost hers lol! But it's just cute to give children that excitement I'm for it all the way! Your kids you choose how you raise them!

Santa doesn't exist. My parents always bought my gifts. I think it's supply to believe in those kinds of things.
