Can you test anytime?

In a relationship and he is not my daughters father but we are trying to have our first together. I've not told my daughter we are actively trying but that one day I would like another baby. So trying to test is difficult as she is always around. I don't always have the chance when i first wake up in case she walks in on me. But have other chances during the day or evening is it ok to test then??? Will it effect the result??
