My period was late

I've never had this happen..I usually have my period every 22-26 days .. But this time it lasted 35 days.. I had so much pain in my tummy it was rock hard like when you're 8 months pregnant... any thoughts on why this might have happened? My friend thinks my ovaries dropped, but I'm not sure if that's even a possiblity... Thank you!!
