Why is pregnancy calculated like it is?

Does anyone know why pregnancy is calculated from the first date of your last menstraul cycle and not when you actually conceived?

My first appointment isn't until the second week in January and this question is just burning in my mind!

BC nit every woman concieves 2-3weeks after their period. And actually they normally give you the due date based on that until they get the measurements from your first ultrasound which gives them a more accurate date of how far along you are... Also by the time you conceive the baby/fetus is already 2weeks gestation.

FYI the measurements they give you from a dating ultrasound still factor time between your last period and ovulation. So if you have a 28 day cycle and ovulate around day 14, your due date will remain the same. It changes if you ovulated at a different time and took a while to implant, but they still don't date it based off conception day. Does that make sense? For example at my dating ultrasound I was 6w4d from my last period, and I measured 6w3d. If they based off conception it would have been 4w3d but that's not how the measurements work. Does that make sense?

WSS, I didn't ovulate until 35 days after my period,  and the only reason I know is that I was charting my cycle.  I informed the Dr. Of my due date on my first spot 😅, after an u/s he said baby measured 2 days off my guess.

Actually its not .because if my dr was going by my last menstrual period i would be 17 weeks exactly but shes going by what my ultrasounds say. I conceived the 17th of sept and im 14 weeks 4 days
