monochorionic identical twins?!

Question

Just had our first ultrasound today at 5 weeks, six days. Two strong heartbeats and the doctor tentatively identified them as monochorionic twins, meaning they have separate amniotic sacs, but share a placenta.

We're shocked and beyond excited...but also terrified. I'm trying to stay off google, but I did read a little about all of the complications with identical twins and I'm pretty freaked out.

Anyone pregnant or have identical twins?!?

Do not Google!!!!!! I'm 29 weeks pregnant with mono di boys. It's very scary to read the Internet...so I would advise against it! Make sure you are seen by a maternal fetal medicine Doctor by 14-16 weeks for ultrasounds every 2 weeks to watch for twin to twin transfusion. I also recommend going the modi twins Facebook page and the modi twins pregnancy Facebook page. Good luck mama and congrats!!

I'm 22. weeks with mono/di girls.  Aside from horrible morning sickness until about 18 weeks, the pregnancy has been good.  I do have placenta previa, so on pelvic rest.  It's good to educate yourself about any risks, but your doctor should be helping you with that.  Happy pregnancy mama.

I'm 10 weeks with modi twins. Scared too but trying to focus on how much love we have for these little beanie babies already :) what helped me was talking to my OB him acknowledging all my fears made it feel like a weight was lifted.  It helped a lot.

20+1 with mono/di girls ☺️ no problems in pregnancy at all!

I was carrying momo identical twins and lost them at 18w5d due to cord entanglement. I know mo/di is a little less risky and have good outcomes. You will need to be monitored my a MFM doctor to check to TTTS, which is rare but a very real risk. I highly recommend the Facebook support groups, they are great. Good luck!!!

I am 25 weeks with identical twin girls ♡♡ you should join the Facebook group for mono/di twin pregnancy and stay off google. There's a lot of information and support in the group!
