Cousin's child is in foster care, should I adopt it?

Question

My cousin has a two year old who was taken away due to neglect. The child is currently in the foster care system. The thought of trying to adopt the child has crossed my mind. I have PCOS and may not be able to have a child of my own. My husband is against the idea though. My cousin isn't someone you can trust and would likely keep trying to interfere.

My question is then...adopt or no?

You need to put everything aside and put the child first. The child is in a home with strangers right now, or it could be with someone they know... You.

Handle your paper work or get a nice lawyer so your cousin cannot interfere. You both must be on the same page though and it could strain your marriage. To me the guilt is not worth it. Remember to whom much is given much is expected so you'll reap a greater reward in the end. A child who cannot help themselves who has family. Family is a bond that can be broken by the choice we make that affect each other. Personally I would care about the child's safety first. Even if they are adopted by another loving family that will allow you to be a part of the child's life to make sure they are okay.

I think you should adopt . Thats is your family . You could take care of that child better than anyone else because that child knows you and would be comfortable with you .

First : you CAN get pregnant with PCOS. 
Second : adopt the child because you want to adopt him not because you worry you might not have your own .

I think you should if your husband is also willing to. Maybe you could talk to him about it further. Or you could adopt and take the chance that it could put a strain on your marriage, but I would certainly try to get your husband on the same page before bringing a child into your life to raise as your own.

I think the first step would be getting your husband on  board. If he's not willing to be a father to that child then "no". That baby is young and still has a good chance at finding a loving and nurturing home.

Have you been approved to adopt a child?  There are so many channels you have to go through to adopt.  Why not just have your cousin sign off rights to you then you get an attorney to get guardianship established that will cost roughly around $700-1,000.

Absolutely! If you can get hubby to come around. That little one would rather be with family than anyone else, no doubt. Just because his mother would interfere doesn't make it an automatic no. There are ways to keep her away still, you could be granted a closed adoption I imagine. You can always stay away from her too. I think if I had the chance I'd do it and give him a better life. Foster care can be a nightmare.
