Awkward situation

Had sex with my boyfriend tonight for the first time and well he's think but not exactly the longest but anyways when he was inside me I actually had to double check that he was cause I couldn't feel it... What do I do for next time so then I can feel it and actually enjoy it more... Could the problem have been that it was cause he was on top?
