Is it safe to use heating pad for cramps?

I am 33w1d and having pretty bad cramps that feel like period cramps. Is it safe to use a heating pad for relief?

I probably wouldn't use the heating pad on my stomach.. I've used them for my back though!

I think heat helps with period cramps because it increases the blood flow and helps your period progress faster. I don't think it would help for cramps during pregnancy because even though they feel the same, they are not the same. A warm bath should be fine, but I would not put a heating pad on my belly. It could overheat the baby.

No, I'm sure it would have a similar effect to a too hot bath, heating the amniotic fluid and causing the baby distress.

I would do a nice bath, and let your doctor know if they continue (get stronger). Cramping can be a sign of premature labor if it progresses.

I've been having these too. I'm more concerned with why though? I've never been pregnant before so this is so new to me, but I get them mostly at night and they linger for a while. Like like the Braxton hicks that I've been getting for weeks, these are different.
