I miss brie! (and other soft cheeses)

Liz • 25, pregnant for the first time.

I am 17wks, and I miss soft cheeses SO much. Christmas was super frustrating as my family had ham (which you're not supposed to eat) and brie (also not allowed) every day (along with cocktails and beers). Ham and cheese is my holiday treat, as I am not into turkey and fruit pudding.

I live in Australia, where dairy products must be pasteurised to be sold.

Do you think I can have a little bit of cheese on crackers every now and then? I feel stupid for being so upset about missing out on cheese platters, but it's the one thing I'm struggling to be well behaved with.

What contraband food (or beverages) are you missing the most? Maybe knowing i' not suffering alone will help me feel better!

I'm gonna get shit for this but I haven't cut anything out of my diet. I eat the same as I did before pregnancy. I look at it like, I didn't get sick before. I.probably won't now. As long as you purchase food from credible places and not a rusty old van outside the corner store you should be fine.

Yes! I doubt my kid is gonna die because I ate subway and drank Pepsi. Now I'm not just going overboard eating raw everything but I'm not googling everything I eat either.

I'm with u. barely cut anything, most of the rules are super outdated. or "risky" is hard to define. the riskiest thing I do each day is get in a car. so why agonize over a poached egg? I don't get it, but that's just me :)

I'm weird about soft cheese too. But ham?? You can definitely have ham. Lol. You really don't have to be so strict. I am 37 weeks with a healthy boy and I have had occasional sushi, lunch meat, some soft cheese like feta, bacon, eggnog, etc. Think about it this way, before all these silly rules were made up, people had healthy babies all the time. Don't go fledge into eating whatever. But moderation and making sure it's pasteurized is key.

As long as it's pasteurized, it's fine. I've had Brie. I feel no guilt. It's oh so good

Yep, it's only a problem if the cheese isn't pasteurized! Just double check the packaging and you're good to go 😀

I think many of the so called rules are silly. I eat basically anything I want. 20 weeks with a perfect baby girl.

Unless you are also avoiding fruits and vegetables, there's no reason to avoid deli meats and soft cheeses.

Have you looked up vegan brie recipes? I know there is a place that sells it in Melbourne they do ship within Australia as well.

My dr said I can eat anything as long as it hasn't been sitting out for like 4 days without being stored properly. And soft cheeses and lunch meat she said are safe as long as they're pasturized. But she said if I'm really worried about it, heat it first.

I miss Brie too it's my favourite cheese. I would kill for a bacon & Brie baguette right now. I've never stopped eating ham though. Never heard of it being an issue in the UK.

I missed pate the most over Christmas! I was thinking about it all the time. So on xmas day I had a small bite of pate (without the OH finding out lol) and I was happy with just that. The craving for it went away then!
