I wonder if fasting makes the initial sugar go up. For my one hour I only fasted for the two hours they said and I failed at 157. For the three hour my overnight fasting was 80 something, but one hour after the drink it was 201! Even higher than the nonfasting! I did pass overall, though because at 2 and three hours my levels were fine and back almost to the fasting number.

I had my three hour on Monday, after failing the one hour with a 173. The holiday weekend was before and I ate whatever I wanted. I would definitely follow the "higher carb" diet if your doc recommends. I went in thinking I would fail but my numbers were perfect (fasting -73, 1 hr - 116, 2 Hr - 109, 3 hr- 75). Like others said, stay hydrated and realize that even if you do have GD, it's not your fault!

I failed the 1 hour with 179 and passed my 3 hour with perfect numbers. Just remember that the odds of failing the 1 hour are pretty high, so many things can cause a fail in the 1 hour test. My doctor highly recommended being sure you are properly hydrated before the 3 hour test.

I'm not sure what my failed number was for the one hour.  Through my experience with other moms who failed the one hour, they ate regular meals before the test, then drank the glucose.  As I did, and had failing numbers.  I went for the three hour test and passed with such flying colors the nurse told me, eat what you want for the holidays!  I will give you a warning about the three hours test; bring something with you to eat right away after.  20 minutes after taking the glucose, after fasting all night (I am actually hypoglycemic), I had the worst migraine and I was so nauseous.  By the time the first hour was up and they drew my blood I was better.  If you do throw up the glucose they will have you go back another time to try again.  You can drink water after the first hour, that really helped with the headache and nausea.  After the third hour and 4th blood draw and walking out of the lab the sugar crash hit me, and with no substance in my system I was about to pass out.  We went to the grocery store to get something to eat, bad idea! Like I said take something with you to eat right then and there.  I am not trying to freak you out, I am just trying to let you know what no one told me.  Good luck!
