Let's jump right in this. Apperently my fellow Americans whoever told you "You speak English" has lied to you. I am truly sorry about that. Haha. No seriously, my cousin just showed me a job application she was filling out and it asked "What languages do you speak?" In the list there was American now me being the slow ass that I am I was like in my head  "No, I speak English stupid application." Then I realized a second later I do speak American...American English. That was literally my first time ever seeing that on any application:
