Telling the boss?

Question

Looking for advice on telling my boss I am expecting. The kicker is I have a new job that I start a week from tomorrow (the 11th). I'll be 10 weeks when I start and would like to wait a few weeks before I talk with him. I work in a high level, professional field. Anyone have experiences they are willing to share? Things that worked and things that didn't? 
PS - first trimester has been pretty easy, so I'm not too worried about having obvious symptoms. Thanks!

Well... I am in high level, professional field myself and currently at 8 weeks. My plan is not to tell until I am 6 months along and will be showing. The reality is that pregnant women get treated differently at the workplace, and I would like to defer that as long as possible. Legally I don't have to declare until 2 weeks prior my pregnancy leave, I am giving them three months notice. Very generous on my part I would say.

I plan to tell my boss after my first scan at 12 weeks as I'm in the UK. I'm in a professional role & I have been there 5 yrs, my boss respects Me. I think everyone presumes it's going to happen as I got married in August & everyone keeps going on about when you have children Blar Blar. The UK laws protect you from being discriminated. I say tell your boss when you are ready, especially starting a new job, give yourself time to get to know your boss & build a relationship. Good luck xx

I also work in a professional field, and I had this conversation with a colleague last week. I am planning to tell somewhere around the middle of the second trimester. My colleague had just gotten hired before she got pregnant, and she told him just after the end of the first trimester.

I've been at my job for 4 years but I'm a bit nervous about telling anyone there anytime soon. I'm in a professional environment, but I'm in a position to restructure my job a bit (which would include a lot more responsibility and work with a title and pay raise). I don't have a boss right now as we are in the process of hiring (only 4 employees total at full staff plus our board of directors is 12). I know I have to tell people soon as my due date falls within 10 days of 4 major fundraisers that I am trying to take on as my own (so logistically I have to make sure a plan b and c would be in place- but can't do that without arising suspicion). On the other hand, I'm afraid if I say anything too soon, the new boss (expected sometime in feb.) and BOD will not entertain such a big shift in responsibilities (I'm basically trying to take two jobs). The BOD loves me, but they are also a group of mostly men (and two childless women) who seem to think women have to make the choice of family OR career.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm only 6w 3d but I feel I might need to tell my boss sooner then expected due to intense symptoms that are having me off work extremely sick. I only started my new job on the 14th of December, it is also a highly business profession, but I'm still on probation for the next 2.5 months. I think they are already suspecting that I might be expecting, but it is really difficult because I would have rathered wait until I was at least past 12 weeks. I'm so sick though and already having to take days off work (already up to 4 days off work) :/ and I'm afraid they might fire me if they think I'm just a slack worker that's always sick without knowing the actual reason behind it. My partner thinks I should tell them when I go back in Monday but I ha e no idea how I'm going to!?!
