Any RN Mommys?!

Question

Just need some advice and direction... I start my second semester of nursing school January 20th, my induction is scheduled February 1st and the program is accommodating me with two weeks off.... Am I crazy for thinking I can successfully complete second semester with a newborn?

I got accepted into the nursing program the same week I found out I was prego with my daughter.  9 months later I was right in the middle of clinicals and they would not allow me to take more than 2 days off! So I scheduled to be induced and had her on a Thursday and was back in clinicals on the following Monday. Def the hardest thing I've ever had to do but as far as studying and schoolwork it was not that bad having a newborn bc she slept a lot. I feel like it would have been harder with a 6 month + baby. Getting my degree was the best thing I've ever done! I love being a RN.

I had my son 2 weeks after my first semester of Graduate school.  It was challenging,  but we made it :)  There were a few days he had to come to school with me, luckily most of the professors were understanding. As for fieldwork, that was most challenging especially since I had to pump several times a day to keep my supply up,  and as a student I didn't always have the luxury of breaks outside of lunch. Studying wasn't so hard until he started crawling and walking,  then he wanted to be all over whatever mamma was doing :)

I had my first baby the first semester of nursing school and am having this baby in my last semester. I think, well know, its doable for me. You just have to be very focused and dedicated. Itll work out!

When I went to nursing school my daughter was 9 months old. That was hard enough so I can't imagine her being a newborn and finishing school.

Can it be done? Yes. Would I personally do it? No. There where 2 pregnant women in my class. Both had to take a semester off and return with the following class because our school only allowed you to miss 3 days. Plus our school HATED dealing with pregnant students. Even said on our first day "please don't get pregnant, use protection. You have the rest of your lives for babies and by finishing this program you will better be able to care for them" Both ladies I started the program with returned the following semester and just graduated with that class instead of ours.

Do what you feel you can do but nursing school is hard enough not being pregnant or having a newborn. Good luck!!!

Not a nurse but I work with one who was in her final semester when she had a baby. She did just fine. Granted she looks back on it now and says "what was I thinking," but she wouldn't take it back because she got it done and now has a great job to support her family. I totally admire her for her dedication! I think you can do it if you are determined, and many people I know only get a few weeks off work before going back.

My sister in law just graduated from an accelerated RN/BSN program. Two girls had babies during that time, and one of her classmates had two! You can do it!! =)
