Perineal massage?

Has anyone had a perineal massage during delivery? Did it help reduce tearing and ripping?

Just had 3rd baby... I did for the 1st and second but they didn't with the 3rd. I had to have full episiotomy with my first and a small snip with my second. And for my 3rd I tore... I actually tore my inner lip in half... I have got to be honest... I would have rather gotten an episiotomy again. I only needed 4 stitches but where they are at is painful...  But yea, normally perineal massages help... I just have big babies....

My doctor did perineal massage during my labor and it helped a lot. I still tore but I did not need the episiotomy and the tearing could have been worse.

I had a very fast labor.... 6 hours got my epidural at 9 cm and they stretched me while I was pushing but I only pushed for 20 minutes so I ended up having a big episiotomy .... If labor was slower then I'm sure it would've helped... However I couldn't help how fast it was
