Hospital bound at 7cm

Nicole
My baby boy's birth story is actually pretty funny. I realized how literal of a person I actually am. I stuck to what they taught us in labor class. Wait to go to the hospital when contractions are about 3-5 minutes apart and lasting for about 45-60 seconds at a time, consistently.
On Monday, 12/28, I started going into  labor at 6:30pm. My due date was 1/3. Up until 11:30pm, I had convinced myself I wasn't in labor. Here was my reasoning; starting out, my contractions weren't consistent (30 minutes apart, 15 minutes, 25 minutes, 13, etc.) and the contractions themselves never lasted more than 30 seconds. It wasn't until about 11 pm when they suddenly became strong and under 7 minutes apart.
I woke my husband up at 11:30, still convinced it was the real deal and we were hospital bound.
12:00 I was able to walk to the labor/delivery room and have conversations with the nurses during contractions, which were becoming very strong and frequent. The nurses checked me, believing I was going to be 4-5cm dilated, only to be shocked that I was actually 7 cm.
At this point, my contractions were excruciating, and I begged for epidural. 2:30 I got my wish and it was wonderful.
God bless you mommas who got through it with no interventions. I was close but it was too much for me.
Besides labor shakes, I was so relaxed and able to build up strength.
5 AM we started pushing and by 5:40 AM I was holding my little boy in my arms. He wasn't even half way out before he started crying out. Strong lungs on him.
Next time, I'll know to head to the hospital earlier!
Here's my little boy! He entered the world at 8 lbs. 4 oz. and 19 inches long!
