Parenting philosophy
The first mom has three young boys, she's what you would call a "crunchy mama". While I was with her, we discussed things like bone broth and fluoride-free tooth paste. This mom's house was an absolute mess. There was a fort standing tall in the living room, toys thrown about, and at all times, at least one kid was naked. Her boys were respectful, intelligent and kind. And they had a whole lot of messy fun. Her rules regarding cleanliness were very relaxed, however her rules regarding respect towards authorities were very high.
The second mom is a mother of two young girls. She's your average suburban mom. While I was with her, we all sat down to eat fried chicken and we discussed things like learning disorders and child discipline. Her house was almost completely in order. The girls played quietly while we chatted, and the mom got onto the girls often about putting their toys away and keeping quiet. Their home was full of rules and boundaries, very different than the first home I visited. The girls were highly respectful and very clean.
Both of these homes were full of love, just love shown in different ways. In the poll I want to know, with which one do you agree more?
For further discussion, what do you believe are the pros and cons to both scenarios?
Is it possible that allowing kids to be kids and letting them be messy and slightly crazy is better or worse than teaching kids to be orderly and clean?
What are your thoughts?
