He's here! After 66 hours of failed inductions and laboring!

Toni
Well mamas, meet Chase David! The love of my life!
We were admitted Saturday for induction at 5:00 am due to gestational diabetes. We hadn't made any progress from our appointment Wednesday, so we were 3cm, -3 station and 50% effaced. We did pitocin for over 24 hours with no progress. We did get about an hour or so contractions, but they started spacing out, and then they were gone! They checked us at 8:30 at night and the only change was he was -2, and our midwife said that our cervix wasn't where she wanted, and we probably should have gone a different route but she hadn't done our first check and we were committed now. We were on our second run of pitocin getting up to maxed out! We were so disappointed that nothing was happening, but we were gonna stay positive! Then Sunday morning we discussed our options since the pitocin was getting us NOWHERE. We decided to do a Foley catheter. OH BOY! That was the longest 13 hours of my life, it got us into active labor for about 8 hours, and it was so excruciating!! Then out of nowhere they started spacing out and then... Voila! Contractions were gone again! We were checked and we were at a 4/5 cm, soft cervix finally and still -2. We went to bed disappointed AGAIN. On Monday we caught a break when The midwife on call seemed to really understand us and gave us permission to leave the hospital for 2 hours and get some fresh air. We walked and enjoyed the time, since on pitocin I was tethered to the monitor and a 3 foot radius. Came back and started doing some squats and MY WATER BROKE! Around 12:20, and soon I was in active labor! My doula arrived at the hospital and we labored HARD until about 6:00. I was shaking and vomitting and crying my eyes out. My doula and midwife told me I was in transition and that we would soon be pushing! The midwife checked me and... 5 cm. I started bawling and said I was getting an epidural. Everyone kept trying to encourage me that I could do it, but with such hard work for 5 hours and we hadn't made progress? I WAS DONE! Waiting the 30 minutes for the epidural was AWFUL. But I felt perfect except for some shaking. So my midwife comes back to check on me, and I overhear that the baby is having some heart rate accelerations. So she checks me and says we need to push to get the baby down, but not to get my hopes up because it wasn't time to have he baby yet. Well after 30 minutes, she has changed her mind and has decided we are going to deliver! But my cervix was not cooperating, it jumped from 7-10-9-10-8 centimeters constantly! My entire bag of urine from the catheter was filled with blood and she was stretching my vagina until it could no more. We pushed for 3 hours, I was exhausted and had thrown up all my food during my fake transition. We had also turned off my epidural so that I could push, but I was then in such crazy pain! The on call OBGYN came in to check on us, because our son was on a time clock, and I had now spiked a fever! We pushed a few more times and she confirmed the baby was wedged in my pelvis. He had measured his head in the 97% at his most recent scan. It was time for a csection and I quickly agreed. I had nothing left to give! I felt like I'd given my all to my laboring and was ready to healthily meet my son. The surgery was fast and before I knew it, my son was in my arms! Before finding out I had GD, we had wanted a natural childbirth and ended up with a completely medicated one. But I have no regrets! Chase David is finally here and currently snuggling on my chest! Born 1/4 at 11:17 pm; 8 pounds 14 ounces & 20.75". Don't be afraid to roll with the punches and change your plans! The most important thing is a healthy baby, no matter how you get there! Good luck to all you moms delivering soon!
