When to go on leave?

Question

I'm 22+3 with twins.
Currently working out my maternity leave but I can't decide whether to start it at 30 weeks or 34 weeks? Financially I think we can manage either but OH is pushing me so we get one more full payday. He's not pushing me in a bad way but as the breadwinner I want to make sure we don't struggle more than we have to.

I'm in the UK so I get 39 weeks paid maternity leave.

At 22 weeks i thought it would be easy to work until 30 weeks but by 25 I wanted to be done. I made it to 29. But the last two weeks were HARD. Every body and job is different but that was my experience. Twins are hard work!!!

Wow that's amazing! I can't go on leave until my OB puts me on bed rest or I go into labor. I get 8 weeks paid and that includes if I take it early for bed rest. And then it's unpaid after that.

Wow i am really thinking about moving tk the uk!!!! 39 weeks! I only get 12 and its not paid. I have to use all my vacation and sick time and short term disability which only pays for 4 weeks i think.

I'm waiting until I get an induction/c sec date, then maybe going a week back from that date. If I go into labor naturally, then that'll be my last day. Since I've had no problems and no bed rest orders, I'm going to work until I can't so I can spend the most time at home with the new babies after they're born.

My job's policy is two weeks before due date, then 8 weeks after. My OBGYN will sign paperwork for 8 weeks rest after delivery or surgery. FMLA protects my job for 12 weeks. I have a good relationship with my manager and he knows I'll be out the full 12 weeks, so I don't want to take too much time before they're born if I don't have to, so I can be there with them until they're about 3 months old. So I don't want to start my FMLA too early, even if my job allows me out 2 weeks before. I'd rather have that time after birth.
