Do you have to start with them using the potty sitting down?

Yes. I did. This helped while he was still learning when he needed to go. Once he got the hang of it I taught him to stand. He loved how much easier it was and has been going that way since. He started potty training last June when he was 2.5 years old.

Yep. My son's going to be 7 in August and he's still more comfortable sitting than standing lol.

Yes, we taught him sitting down. It lasted about 6 months before he decided he wanted to start standing to pee like his Daddy. Hes 8 and I still have to get after him to pay attention when he pees, because he'll start looking around, which causes his stream to follow his gaze. Haha!
