I'm sooooo frustrated and furious! So my cousins wife is pregnant with twins. She's had one miscarriage already this time last year. Well, now, one of the babies is perfectly fine(Adalynn), however the other has a birth defect(Braelynn). They were told at week 12 that B may have gastroschisis. But that they weren't for sure, they could have just gotten a bad ultrasound. And who was the one that brought up the issue? The ultrasound tech!!! Umm, isn't the doctor supposed to be the one to tell you if something is wrong?! So then they go to a specialist. Except that one baby could have a cystic hygroma. But it was nothing to worry about. This dr confirmed that the baby had intestines on b were outside of the body and added that the heart was slightly lower than normal, probably due to the intestines being outside or it could be a chromosome issue(that ended up negative). They were told it could be one of 3 things. The high risk dr they went to this time said b doesn't have gastroschisis, but they think it's an amniotic band issue. The stomach, liver, intestines, and bowels are on the outside of the body. Could be an abdominal wall defect, or a chest wall defect. One can be fixed, one cannot, and the baby will die from internal infection. So they're scheduled for an MRI. Those results came back as B having the abdominal wall defect which is the gastroschisis. So there was some hope for survival as it could be fixed once she was born with surgery. Then yesterday, they get a call. They've been to see a new dr. Because their old one retired. The new dr says that b's heart is on the outside of her body, and there's a chest wall defect. Even though no heart issue was listed on the MRI report they got. So now they're going to a dr 4 hours away that would be able to do surgery while the baby is still inside the womb to potentially save her life.
