Any ladies that have gone through Pre-Med/Med School?

Is pre-med/med school as bad as everyone makes it out to be? On a scale of 1-10 how much free time did you/ do you have? My boyfriend is worried about it, and I'm a little concerned, seeing that we have been together 3 years and we'd like to get married in the next few years but he seems to think that we won't have time and that I'll be too busy for him. So, let's hear it ladies.. What was/ is your experience?

I met my boyfriend when he was still in pre-med, and he was a very hardworking student, finished with a 3.9 gpa. Before we moved in together, we saw each other a few times a week during the weekdays (short hangouts on campus, or at his house to study together) and we'd see each other almost all weekend, but there was a lot of just laying in his bed while he studied and I did whatever until he was finished. It takes a little patience and understanding, but it was doable. Even when he was studying for the MCAT, it was fine. I wouldn't worry about pre-med, but med school is a different story!

Med school is not that bad, it's time consuming and it's hard, but it's something to be very proud of in the end. That being said, being a doctor is NOT a job, it is a lifestyle.. It is something that you bring home with you every night, on the nights that you come home.. It is an emotional roller coaster, but it is worth every second. It is something that you have to be 100% committed to. If you have ANY question in your mind that it's not for you, you will not like it.

Med school is insane and it’s hard to make time to be with your family let alone more social life. You need someone who is behind you 100% - unfortunately a lot of relationships break apart in med school. But at the same time I’ve seen some beautiful new ones start :)

Hi Claire, my husband and I met in med school. It is a lot of hard work, but I had real friendships and some free time here and there. Residency (3-7 years after med school) is more like a job, but I do work about 70-80 hours per week and have an erratic schedule. Lots of nights in the hospital. Medicine does not leave you with as much free time as many others will have.  We did delay starting a family, however, to finish our training. It is a very hard and long road but meaningful work. Med school requires sacrifices (for me, hobbies went down the drain...and exercise too ). But I still socialize and cook and run occasionally and my husband and I have time together too.
