Could it be a false negative?

I've had a ton of pregnancy symptoms. I went to the ER because of what wound up being an ovarian cyst that ruptured. The day after there was bleeding for a little less than a day, then it was just spotting, and I've never had spotting.. That was also a week before my period was supposed to start. I waited a week and a half after my period was supposed to start to take another test and it was negative. The doctors said the symptoms I have aren't from the cyst so I'm not sure what's going on unless it's a false negative. Has anyone gone through something similar?
