OB-GYN or Midwife and reason why?

Question

Hi Ladies! Super excited and still in shock to have a little bean growing inside of me for th first time.  I have my first GP app tomorrow and I know I need to figure out what health care provider I'll use long term.  
My question is - should I go with a OB-GYN or a Midwife and why?  I've heard Midwife's are lovely and more personal care offered but I'd love to know all of the facts!

The person behind te title is actually much more important than the title itself, in my opinion. I've had a midwife who was subpar, and a pro-natural OB who ended up coaching me like a doula. So in my experience my expectations were backwards. I'd say focus on "who" they are rather than "what" their title is. If possible, I'd try to meet both of your options and see which you feel more comfortable with.

Whatever u decide go in with an open mind. I went into this pregnancy w a mindset on having a midwife, natural birth experience, and water birth but then I started having complications like fainting and so we all agreed that itd be best to have ob care even though I'm not considered high risk or anything. I'd say, meet with a couple of obs and midwives and discuss your needs & concerns. whichever sounds more appealing for your preference, go with that selection but be prepared to make a switch if needed so that you're less disappointed if it does happen.

In the US the basic difference between OB and CNM is that OBs are surgeons. They treat birth as a medical problem. Which you might want I suppose, but it does lead to extra unnecessary interventions, which aren't without risk. Also, midwives tend to have more time to spend with you. If you're low risk, I'd choose a midwife unless you're looking to have the doctor take charge of your pregnancy for you. (Not saying that OBs don't listen! There are great OBs, I know a few. They just have a different skill set. In Europe, most births are attended by midwives and OBs deal only with high risk things and complications).

Personally i love having midwife. The place i go to is a small place and they are way more personal and make sure that you will know whos at the hospital with u for delivery because they only have 4 midwifes so i switch back and fourth at appts so i know all of them. Just my personal preference. I hated the ob so i switched.

I never encountered a midwife simply because that's hard hunting for someone I DONT NEED to have. I love having an OBGYN and I have no issues. I personally believe many women who choose to not have possible confrontation with their doctors will go with a midwife since they practically submit to you and what you want but OBGYNS can do the same thing if you take the time out to express what you want but when you don't take control and let them tell you what to do then yes you're bound to have a controlling Doctor. In the end they all want you to be happy but there are things they may have to do and you will have to comply.
