Do you think this is gaudy?

Hi! I know I shouldn't care about opinions, but it got me thinking. My engagement cannot be worn until it is fixed. It is an 80 yr old ring passed down through my husbands family and needs $2-3,000 worth of repairs-it's platinum and some diamonds need to be replaced.

ANYWAYS- my husband surprised me with this gorgeous London blue topaz ring to wear until we can financially fix the engagement ring. I love it with the rest of my wedding set( which also belong to his grandma). A friend of mine commented on it and said "don't you think it's a bit gaudy?". I thought it was rude, but it did get me thinking.... What are your thoughts?!
