I'm a student nurse and what you are referring to is most likely Montgomery's Tubercles. These are normal (I have them) and they show up when the nipple is stimulated. They can become more prominent during pregnancy, however, it sounds like your nipples are just reacting to stimulation/cold/etc.

There's a bunch. They don't protrude and they're pretty small. On the nipple itself, not areola although I do have new bumps on those as well. Montgomery Tubercules or something.
