Sex offenders register?

Question

So in the UK sex offenders have to sign a sex offenders register and you used to be able to view this online but a good few year back it was all made private and now its not for public use. My question is do you think this information should be shared? Whats the point in it if its not public? I know it effects future jobs that need to be CRB'd but even so i think everyone should be able to check if their boyfriend, employers, babysiters or anyone they get involved with in any way is a sex offender or not. They should be named and shamed in my oppinion so whats your oppinion?

I appreciate that I can know who is living in my neighborhood. Not only is it all mapped out on a website with their photo and offense, but it's also on the news when they're released and moving to the area.

The Police often check these houses on Halloween to make sure they're compling with the rules (which are no decor or soliciting kids for trick or treating) and then it's announced on the news who violated the rules and went back to jail. It's so disturbing and unsettling to me to hear it every year. There's obviously a strong need to protect my family and how can I do that without the right info?

No way. This would be incredibly dangerous. Did you hear about the iranian refugee that got beat to death by a mob in Bristol.  He tended a community garden and he took pictures of some children vandalising it to show the police, the kids told their families the creepy iranian guy that lives alone was taking pictures of them. Now he's dead. People cannot be trusted with that information

In the US the list is public. You can bet I checked it to make sure there aren't offenders living in my area.

I think it depends.
Sometimes a registered sex offender is just some one who got caught peeing in a park. Not really fair to have their name publicly listed next to a rapist or pedifile, their life would become difficult for something that is really kinda stupid.

Hard to tell. Yes, it's valuable information for those around a real abuser. However there are SO MANY people on that list that don't deserve it or did something small to be listed there. It ruins those individuals lives. Imagine a teen being slapped on that list for calling someone a whore. I've even heard it's possible to be put on it for being gay if you piss off the right person. It's like everything else -a faulty system.

I think it should depend on what they did that got them on the list. I have a friend that got put on the sex offenders list for streaking when we were in high school. He did nothing to hurt anyone, but his life is ruined and he has trouble everywhere all because people see him on the list and judge. People can also be put on for peeing outside. I dont think those type of people should be shown publicly. But yes I want to know if there is a child molester, or rapest in my area.

I saw online in some county they were going to have registered sex offenders be required to have a small bill board type thing in their front yard... Now idk if that's true, not everything we read on the Internet is true.. But I disagree with that. 
Public access on the Internet yes, but to show the world on their lawn can lead to dangerous crimes from other people.
