How common is miscarriage in first pregnancy?

This is my first pregnancy and I'm finding myself terrified of miscarriage. Does anyone know how common miscarriages are in the first pregnancy? And around what time in the pregnancy they usually occur?

Same, it's almost like I'm not even letting myself get excited because of all the mc stories on here. I keep saying if the baby sticks...when I talk about future events. That's horrible to have to say.

Miscarriages can happen to anyone at anytime. After 12 weeks the risk significantly drops.

I've read, it's 20% of pregnancies and drops to 5% after 6 weeks. 
You'll always hear different things from different people, doctors, sites etc.

There is a very helpful chart on miscarriage rates by week in Emily Oster's book Expecting Better.  It doesn't matter whether you're a first time mom per se.  Miscarriage rates start off fairly high but fall each week and are around 2% in a low risk pregnancy by week 11.

This is my third pregnancy. The first I had my daughter who is now 6. In 2014 I was pregnant with twins and had a miscarriage. I'm currently 19w1d pregnant with my rainbow baby. That fear and discomfort of it happening again scares me till this day but feeling my baby move and react to my voice and touch is just amazing. I can't wait to find out what I'm having. This is my first pregnancy is well and I am feeling exactly the same. It's a constant worry I'm the back of my mind and I google EVERYTHING before I eat it or go out and do it.

When I was talking to people about being scared of losing the baby, the best thing I heard was that from here on out, The rest of the child's life, I'll be scared of losing it.. I can't let the fear hold me back from the excitement of everything with the child. After 12 weeks its a lot more rare to have a miscarriage. Right now I'm 12+4 and the Dr said I have a 1% chance. The further you get, the better the chance.. Just don't let it hold you back from celebrating the journey you've started.

It's extremely common unfortunately. People don't talk about it normally (outside of apps and websites like Glow). I've had 3...2 since April of last year. It's much less likely that you will have 2 in a row though. The bottom line is that there's not a lot you can do to prevent it. It's usually due to a chromosomal abnormality, not something you did or didn't do. All you can do is take care of yourself, listen to your body and be positive. I've heard 1 in 3 pregnancies end in miscarriage, my friend has been pregnant 6 times with 2 miscarriages so those odds seem correct
