My SO and I have had sex while I was on my period plenty of times. But you do have to take your flow into account. Mine is never too bad so we don't even make a mess as long as I go to the bathroom after wards. But it feels no different and my SO doesn't mind a bit.

Shower is always the best solution. When I'm on my period and me and my boyfriend have sex, we always go in the shower. Less messy and easy clean up

It's really nice actually. But it can be messy depending on your period flow. Like usually I won't do it on the first day b/c it's so messy, the third day it's usually ok. Just lay down a towel just in case, & make sure your partner is ok with the blood.
