How many different sizes of diapers should you buy to stock up before baby?

What we do is buy a gift card for about $30-$40 everytime we go to Target. Then once baby comes and we know what size/brand we need/like we have the money set aside. No hassles returning/exchanging and no need to store a bunch of diapers in our small house.

I'd stock up on the larger sizes, like 1's, 2's and 3's. And then just buy a box of newborns size, because you never know how long they'll be in it.

We've been stocking up when there is a sale. Like last week we got 2 boxes of pampers at target because you got a free jumbo size box of refills for pampers wipes. This past weekend I had the future grandparents go to babies r us for us (we don't have one near is) there is a sale that ends today that gives you a $20 gift card for buying 2 boxes. I don't care if we have to exchange them later we would still be saving money. I plan to never pay more than .17/diaper. We've just been getting a few different sizes.

I didn't buy any since I was waiting on my shower which I'm glad I did. we got a ton from the baby shower 3 big boxes of newborn, 3 big boxes of size 1 and 2 small packs and 2 boxes of size 2 all of the brand I only put my kids in..  My kids are born under 6lbs so they wear newborns for the first 3 months.. So we are all stocked up for the first few months.

We don't stock, it's a hassle to exchange diapers if baby ends up having a reaction.

And someone gifted us 2 large packs of newborn Huggies and 2 large packs of size 1 pampers.

We have a ton of newborn, 1's and 2's. Well my baby was born at 37 weeks and was 6.1lbs but lost a bit so we actually had to then stock up on preemie diapers. You still can't go wrong with bigger sizes!
