Would you lie for your child?

I'm watching Making a Murderer and something Al Avery said seemed a little off to me.

He said something to the effect of 'how do you think it feels when your son is sitting right there, tears coming out of his eyes, and he's telling you he didn't do it.' And then, almost like an after thought, 'and you know he didn't do it because you were with him.' (not direct quotes)

If your child was charged with a crime and you 'knew' they didn't do it, would you lie for them? Give them an alibi?

And I don't mean you 'know' it because there's proof. But you just 'know' it because they're your kid and you believe them when they say they're innocent.

This is a tough call. As a parent, i would want to lie and be an alibi for my kid. But lies usually don't work in court cases. The truth always finds a way to come out. That could make things much worse.

People are capable of anything. It would break my heart... but I'd probably give her up. Lying would complicate her trial and cause me to get into trouble. I can't get her help if I'm in jail too. I would always have faith that she was innocent.

I wouldn't because what if my child kills someone else. I would feel horrible to know that he/she took another person's life and it would only confirm that he took the first victims life.

I would like to say I wouldn't. And I KNOW I wouldn't if they were guilty.

But if I honestly believed they were innocent? I don't know. There's a little part of me that thinks I might.

No matter how hard it might be, I couldn't lie for my child. I want them to always own up to their actions. Just a few weeks ago, my son came home from school with a big scrape on his forehead and he said someone pushed him from behind, being mean, and that's what he told his teacher and principal. I finally got the truth out of him. He had been play fighting when he was accidentally knocked down. Instead of letting it go, I took him to school the next day and made him tell the principal what really happened and I told the principal that if the other little boy gets punished, then my son should be punished as well, because he was just as much in the wrong as the other one involved.

That's tough. I have no idea. I would obviously want to believe my child was innocent and defend my child, but I honestly don't think I could lie and be an alibi for my child. Especially since I'm a terrible liar. But it's a tough spot to be in, and I don't envy anyone who has to make that choice.

As a parent, I would want to lie, but I feel that if my child did something terrible, then she should pay The price for it. Mom won't always be there to pick you up when you fall. Sometimes you have to face what you've done on your own. It would break my ever loving heart though.

My mom always told me she would protect me from anything except lying, cheating, and stealing (I'm sure murder was just unspoken). I don't think it sends the right message even to an adult child to lie for them.

That being said its really easy to say "I wouldn't lie for my child" but if I were in the situation and I'd seen my child serve 18 years for something they didn't do and now they are facing more jail time I'm not sure what I would do.

If I didn't SEE it then I don't know shit. I could be releasing another psycho into the world. If he didn't do it than it will be proven.
