Pet over your SO?

Would you choose your pet over your SO? And I don't mean he or she is allergic to your animal. They just decide one day they are sick of your animal so they tell you to get rid of it. What do you do? Also you didn't just get the animal. Let's say you had it for years or possible grew up with it. I'm just curious what people would do.
