Can I start birth control while off my period?

I bought my first packet of pills on the 24th of December and I'm pretty eager to start taking them but the problem is my period is pretty irregular and I haven't gotten i since November! Is it safe to start taking the pill while I'm not on my period? I don't want to have to wait God knows how long to be completely protected (pill & condom). I've done some research and it seems pretty safe to me but I'm not sure, I'm worried

Yes you can, but make sure you wait a week (most pills are 7 days) before having sex without a condom. Check the pamphlet that came with the pills, it should say in there

I've never started it while on my period. I'd just start it. It won't hurt you.

I did I got bc the day after my period stopped.  Nothing happened. And the doctor said it was perfectly fine
