Circumcision advice!?

My bub is just over a day old and my parter and I both agree we want him circumcised. The hospital doesn't offer to do this and there is apparently only one doctor in our city that will do it! A nurse went and made a comment on how she wouldn't get it down based on research she learnt at uni and now she's left me feeling nervous about the whole thing! Baby's been in the special care nursery and even tho he's fine the smallest cry that he makes, upsets me so much, that now I'm thinking about the pain he'll be in when it happens. I don't know much about them other than guys I've been with sexually who haven't been circumcised have always smelt down there cause they don't clean it properly.. Even after they've showered. Has anyone else had their Bub circumcised or know any facts to help reassure me I'm making the right choice? I just would hate to se my boy in pain 😞

My son was circumcised the day after i had him. And i don't regret it at all. Right after they were done they brought him right back and he wasn't even crying. Hes almost 3 and we've had no problems.

I will not be having my son circumcised when he is born. But I have done an extreme amount of research on it, other than relying on other people's opinions. It is a cosmetic procedure only, and the fact there is only one doctor in your hospital that will perform the circumcision should tell you that it is becoming increasingly less of a cultural norm in the US. If you feel that the procedure is necessary for your baby, or you just want to have it done so he will look a certain way, then fine. I don't judge other people for having their baby circumcised, it is your decision,  I just don't feel it is right for my baby. But I would read up on actual medical facts before making your final decision. And anyone who doesn't think a baby feels pain while being circumcised is obviously delusional in my opinion.

We are choosing not to circumcise. It is such a hard decisions. I've talked to nurses, read studies, listened to podcasts, read lots of experiences. It's been a huge discussion and decision for us. There are risks and benifits. If you are unsure I would recommend doing some research and giving yourself and your husband a few days to make a choice you feel comfortable with. We decided against it for our baby because we feel our baby will be born how he should naturally stay, we wouldn't surgically alter our girl either. There are functions for a doeskin and many of the issues that may come along with it are due to the fact that it's not a social norm and many do not know how to care for it. We just hope we are making the best decision for our baby, just as you will hope for your baby. Just the fact that you are questioning and choosing to research and think about it shows that you are a concerned mama that will make the right choice for your baby. Good luck mama!!

As a health professional, the risk of developing penis cancer and STI's are way lower in men whom are circumcised, besides the healing process is sometimes faster than the dropping of the umbilical cord, it might bither him the fist two-three days but with the creams they give you it's a lot easier, plus to me it's a lot easier to clean well a circumcised penis than a non circumcised one, and lot less painfull of course!

We had our lil guy circ. And they did it just a few hours after birth!! Hubby went with him so he could hear his voice & our son didn't even make a peep! And hubs was so relieved that is wasn't a huge, dramatic thing for baby or daddy!

We researched a ton and talked extensively to our Ped. And I felt great with our decision and still do after 2 years!!

We're having our babe circumcised.  It's not as medically necessary as it used to be, but I had the  same experiences as you did. Quite frankly, the baby isn't really affected by it. I think it hurts the mama to see/know it's being done more than it hurts the babe. And they aren't phased by it once it's over, nor do they remember what happened.

Little boys are not in pain while they are circumcised. They are given a multiple numbing solutions, including an oral one for pain afrerwards, and shots around the area for numbing (just like if you were getting a tooth pulled)

The majority of developed countries (America, Canada, South America, and Islamic countries) all circumcise their children (over 50% in each of these areas) US is at about 90%. Studies over the past decades show that circumcised men have a lower chance of contraction UTI's, sti's, HIV, HPV, phimosis, And in turn, lowering their chances of penile cancer, and lower their partners chances of cervical cancer.

Lots of people think circumcision is to "keep yourself clean" but that's only another benefit of the procedure, less likely to get infections (or smegma).

It's not as simple as if you get a circumcision, those things won't happen, but statistically, the chances are lower.

i won't have my son circumcised unless medically necessary. my son is already gunna have to endure open heart surgery after he is born so why put him through another surgical procedure that's unnecessary, risky, and painful for him, all for looks. i won't and i don't judge mothers who do, but please research beforehand and make sure you know all the facts before you decide.

We had or son done. My hubby is circumsized and is happy his parents made that choice.

My father was NOT circumsized and really wishes he had been. The older he gets the more difficult it is to care for it...
