Doctor wrong?

Question

My doctor told me metformin was taken when not trying to get pregnant for PCOS. She said she didn't recommend it for TTC but for weight loss before hand. Is she wrong? I see lots of posts of women online who fell pregnant using metformin before even having to add clomid. Now my doctor is just a GP not a specialist and I will be seeing my endocrinologist as soon as she has an opening but I would appreciate any information about it. Thanks!

The majority of the time when someone has pcos, they also have insulin resistance which is an imbalance of insulin levels. Their insulin levels are high and it causes the ovaries to make androgen hormones (male hormones) like testosterone, causes you to not ovulate, causes irregular periods or few periods, increases body hair, and increases acne. Metformin is a med given to diabetics and women with pcos to help regulate insulin in the body. With the metformin regulating insulin levels, periods start to become normal. Sometimes metformin is enough to get ovulation going, but sometimes it's not enough and is used in combination with fertility meds like clomid and femera. I have pcos/insulin resistance and I take 1000mg of the extended release (easier on the stomach) twice a day. It has helped lower my insulin and my periods are more predictible. I have Pcos and my RE is starting me in metroformin since its been 13 months TTC with no luck

My dr (GP) told me it is not recommended only because there aren't sufficient studies to show the risks during pregnancy. She says the only studies on metformin and pregnancy was done on rats so it is considered level 2 risk during pregnancy. 
She then told me she was okay with the risk after doing research. She said the pros out weigh the cons with PCOS and carrying to term.

It has helped some women conceive it helps balance your hormones and some women it helps regulate periods, weight loss will help as well! Good luck!

Has your PID been treated?  Have you had any procedures done to see if you have scarring on your fallopian tubes? The issue will not be fertility with PID, but carrying. Your chances of ectopic increases. 
You can still do fertility treatments. (I would personally look into more natural food grade supplements) IVF, clomid, etc. But you still have the chance of natural conception. 
A good friend of mine has a similar story. She had a laproscropy to clear her tubes and went on to carry 3 beautiful children  (so far).

Okay I'm totally bawling my eyes out right now. I have an unbalanced vaginal flora now and it looks like when I was raped as a child he may have given me something and now I have PID. I may never conceive because of being raped. I just don't know how to deal with all this.

My doctor had me take it prior for weight loss as well. He had me stop it as soon as I was done with the birth control and ready to start clomid.
