Do I need to drink a lot of water before u/s

Question

I'm having my 9 week ultrasound this morning. They never told me to drink a lot of water. In assuming it will be a transvaginal ultrasound. For that type of U/S did you have to drink a lot of water?

They need your bladder to be as empty as possible for a transvaginal

The only ultrasound I've been asked to have a full bladder for is my Nuchal translucency scan at 13 weeks - and I've have probably 5 ultrasounds in the past month due to some bleeding.  My Dr. usually has me go the the rest room right before the ultrasound too so I don't think it matters.

I hadmy abdominal scan at (what I thought was) 12wks. They told me to have a full bladder but I obviously didn't drink enough so it was more difficult to see the baby n the tech had to press harder to get measurements. Was sore afterwards, will drink a gallon next time! Lol

No. It will be transvaginal so they can see more. I had my first US at 9 weeks transvaginal never drank water an everything went perfect

Better safe then sorry. I always go with full and if they need it empty I just go use restroom. :)

My doctor always told me I needed to have somewhat of a full bladder before a scan. (Not potty dancing full) but just so that we could see the baby better.

A full bladder helps push the uterus up making it easier to scan by ultrasound. Doesn't have to be painfully full. I had 5 mugs of water (~300 ml) over a period of one hour before my ultrasound. Bladder wasn't painfully full.
