This is the WORST perm I have ever gotten. I just got it and I want it gone! Does using shampoo on it really take away the curl..? Any advice at all?!?

Your stylist used some pretty small rods it looks like, holy crap.

The curl does relax with time usually, but it sounds like you're a perm veteran and know how your hair responds to perming.

I'm gonna guess you probably have already tried washing it and hopefully you've gotten it tamed. If you've washed it and you still have too much curl going on for ya, run to the store and grab a bottle of the basic Dawn dish soap (avoid the kinds with bleach and stuff like that). Get a deep conditioner while you're at the store, too, your hair will need some love after all of this. Aussie 3 Minute Miracle (I think that's what it's called) is pretty decent for drugstore brands. Covering your hair in coconut oil, putting a shower cap over it, and sleeping with that on is also good at giving your hair some softness.

Wash your hair with the dish soap once or twice and each time you wash it let it sit on your hair for a few minutes. Condition it (just use your normal conditioner for now) and rinse then towel dry your hair and see what your curl situation is. If you're happy with it, awesome. Use the deep conditioner after you've gotten your hair to where you want it.

For the next few weeks at least, try to wash your hair as little as possible. Stretch your time between shampoos with dry shampoo (Not Your Mother's dry shampoo is amazing and pretty cheap) and shampoo your scalp/roots only, when you rinse, the suds will take care of the length of your hair. Deep condition after shampooing. Also try to minimize how much you use heat to style your hair. Let it air dry, put the flat iron down. If you can't go without using some heat, use a heat protection spray before you do. Pinterest has some ideas on styling your hair without heat and even wet hair. 😆

Wash it within one day of getting the perm to deactivate the ammonium thyglocolate and help return your hair to its natural state. I don't know if that's helpful but I saw it on legally blonde

I did try washing it and wow I'm puffy lol! I'm definitely going to try the dawn soap and conditioning! This is how it's looking post wash with a coconut conditioner
