IVF: Enough follies?

Question

I just had my day 7 ultrasound. I respond really fast to Meds, so retreival will likely be Friday. I already have one at 14mm. But I only have 6 "real" follies with two smaller ones that he doesn't think will catch up.

Has anybody had luck with 6? We were hoping to transfer 2 and have some left over to freeze.

You might be surprised at retrieval. They only saw 7 on my ultrasounds, but we ended up getting 12. Of the 12, 9 were mature, 7 fertilized, we transferred 2, froze 1, and am now pregnant (not sure if it's a singleton or twins yet). Even if it's only 6, that's still good. It's quality over quantity. I was bummed I only got 1 to freeze but the more reading I do, I've realized that's more than I lot of people get. Good luck to you.

I just did an egg retrieval last week and the exact same thing happened to me. I also had the same reaction to clomid...I was ovulating on day 8 on clomid!

I had 12 follicles but only 6 were really big enough. By day 8 of stimm I had 3 at 18mm and 3 at 15mm...the balance all under 13mm. They gave me the trigger and said they expect the others to catch up before the retrieval.

I got 6 mature. No immature. Just the 6 mature. But! I did end up with 2 top grade hatching blasts that were frozen and sent for testing.

I was hoping I'd have a story like they found 12 follicles ended up with 20 eggs! Although mind was pretty true to the ultrasound and my smaller ones did not catch up. Next time they will change my protocol as they wanted at least 12 at my age.

Everyone says it only takes 1 and I could possibly have 2 in my 6 eggs. So although I only had 6 and I only say "only" because I read so many stories where they got over 20...my end result was ok. My doctor kept saying quality over quantity. And in my case it was that..all 6 were mature. 4 made it to say 3 and 2 to day 5/6. Exactly what I should have expected even with 15 eggs...according to the clinic.
