First Gyno Exam

I'm 17 and I feel the need to schedule an exam with a gynecologist, simply because I want to be proactive and keep my health in check. What are some ways to make it less awkward/find a good doctor? I still live with my parents, and though I'm a legal adult in my state, I have a fear that the doctor may discuss my medical record with my parents. Any advice or tips to give would be appreciated!
