Innocent or guilty?

Is it worse to: (unknowingly) 
Convinct an innocent person of murder
Or
Acquit a guilty murder

Our justice system, flawed as it is, is founded on the principle of "innocent until proven guilty". Implementation could use some work, but the idea is good.

I'd rather let a guilty person escape than convict an innocent person.

Though there's no good answer, I would say it's worse to acquit a guilty murderer because this person would be free amoung society to murder more people, where as convicting an innocent person only affects one person.

I'd much rather accidentally take in someone innocent than set someone who is possible dangerous free.

While neither is desirable, or related really, I suppose I would choose to acquit the guilty person.

If you wrongfully convict an innocent person, then that means that the guilty party is still at large, and another's life (and the lives of their family) has been ruined.

Definitely rather acquit the murderer. It's gone to trial at that point and has local interest stirred up. People would be aware of who that person is and what he or she has done.

If he or she moved, the word would likely spread.

Taking a serious charge to trial tends to ruin the accused life, guilty or not.
