Anyone else feel like other people are taking the excitement away?

Obviously this is a problem I'm glad I have and I'm very grateful for people wanting to help us out.
I just feel that I'm unable to buy any of the exciting things for a baby because MIL is insistent on buying all of it! 
We're going shopping on Saturday as we agreed she'd buy the crib. Now she wants to buy the baby bath,  the hooded towels, the baby monitor, etc. I feel like we will be rushed to pick the first thing we see, when I want to be able to relax and look myself. As I'm 25 weeks with twins I don't do rushing about!!
Of course I appreciate her wanting to help but I get the impression she is doing it more to show other people (read: my family) what she has done for us.

These are my first and probably only children so I want to be able to go into a shop and buy stuff for the baby that isn't just hospital bag or maternity stuff.

I know how you feel. This is me & my SO first baby. People have been telling us not to really purchase things because we don't know what we will receive at the baby shower. I understand that but it's our first baby. We are going to purchase the big stuff like crib, travel system, an extra convertible car seat, & some clothes. We don't expect anyone to purchase this stuff because we know what we like & what we want our son to have. I don't want to hear ppl complaining saying it cost to much & I don't end up getting it. So as parents we are. Everything else that we receive will be greatly appreciated. You have the right & say so. Just simply tell her there's things you want to purchase for your children & don't necessarily need everyone to buy you things but they are appreciated.

I guess I would let her make an ass of herself.  Idk. I do understand where you're coming from. But if you say no,  which you have the right to,  or say wait,  which you have the right to, make sure you can afford to make up any thing that isn't purchased

People can get you gift cards if they can't figure out what to buy which will be helpful for diapers and formula and such. If you have time to go look before then, I would go. But there are so many things babies need that it's doubtful people will run out of stuff to buy. Especially with two babies. I say let her buy just because it's so expensive. But if you're not comfortable making a decision it's okay to say "I'm not sure right now, let me think about it and I'll let you know."

I would suggest doing a lot of research before hand. If you have more of an idea what you would like, you may be able to choose more quickly. Also, don't take the tags off things you felt rushed into getting. You can always return and get what you'd like later. If she's anything like my mom, she won't remember every little thing she got. I'd say let her buy the stuff!

You'll have PLENTY of time to buy stuff for your babies. Once the excitement wears out, family buying stuff for your kids dwindles down pretty quick! So for now, let someone else spend the money.

If you feel you're being rushed then just tell her you need to slow down.
