Can management ask a coworker about my health issues?

So, I had a miscarriage this past Sunday and took Monday off from work, let me remind you that I never take any time off even though the company gives us a great amount of PTO. So while I was off Monday my Area Manager called my coworker asking if she knew about what had happened to me and if I was telling the truth about everything(I did tell my manager about what had happened, I didn't tell my coworker) then went on to asking my coworker if my medical issues are causing me to not do my job. She also did share the information with my coworker which I would have preferred she didn't.

So my question is was that illegal for her to do all that?
