Why was everyone calling Angelina Jolie selfish for getting her breasts removed because of the possibility of cancer a while back?

Idk why people were freaking out about this. Even my mom said that she was being selfish. Since when is it wrong to prevent yourself from getting cancer? Am I missing something?

Oh, how selfish of her to be more concerned about her health than complete strangers who think she should keep her breasts for their sake... huh? 😡😒

I saw a lot of people talking about how it was "such a shame to waste those boobs", which is such a gross statement, as if her boobs are worth more than her life. IMO the reason is sexism and people constantly thinking women are only as worthy as they are sexy.

It is not selfish. It is selfless. I love my boobs and even though I wish they could be a little bit bigger, I hate the thought of not having them. Boobs are apart of what makes a woman feel like a woman, to feel sexy, to give food to a child. 
She found out that she has the gene that can later bring upon breast cancer so she took preventive measures to ensure this doesn't happen. She wasn't thinking of herself. She was thinking of her children and her husband, and of course her loved ones. 
Not only has she prevented herself from getting cancer and potentially prolonged her life, she has also made sure that her children will grow up with her in her life and that she will be around to see her grand children born and to help her children raise ther children.
She has caused so much awareness across the entire world for woman to get checked. After she did it my mum went and got checked and it turns out my mum has been diagnosed with cancer. If she hadn't of planted the seed in my mums mind, mum never would of gotten checked and I don't even know if she would be here now.

Angelina Jolie is the most selfless person I know and I admire her courage

I think it is great and I loved that she was normalizing this by being honest about what was happening. Anyone who says it was selfish is clueless about the reasons behind why it happened and is just plain stupid

Because a woman's body doesn't belong to her. Except maybe in the case she has an unwanted pregnancy and instead of making her own decisions regarding it she should have go back in time and "keep her legs closed" and be aware of the consequences of having sex.

I actually remember being really shocked reading so many comments and thoughts about her selfishness for getting her double mastectomy. It was so gross and a huge violation of her personal decision. So many men and women saying she was ruining her body and insisting she was actually taking something away from others when she had such a nice body. I'm sorry....WHAT.

I did think she was showing her privilege when she talked about the surgery. It's not as much of a sacrifice for her because she can afford THE BEST reconstruction and prosthesis. I didn't think it was selfish and she absolutely had the right to do what she thought best with her own body. But I do think she was less than aware that get circumstances aren't just like any other woman's who might find herself making the same decision.
