Overseas move...baby shower or no?

Hello! My husband is in the military and he just received orders overseas. We won't be leaving until about September, and baby should be about 4 months old, but I can't decide if I should have a baby shower or not. I am a FTM and would really like the experience, but with such a big move coming, I'm not sure that it's a good idea to get a ton of things to have to take with us, especially as our place there comes furnished and we will be selling our furniture. Any moms go through something similar or have any advice?? Thanks!!

Maybe do it and only register for things you would take? Clothes, diapers, pacifiers,  bath stuff, diaper bags, carriers, etc.

You could definitely ask for gift cards! Or if you know the address of where you're moving, ask for gifts to be shipped there?!

Yes darling! Still celebrate your little one! Have a baby shower but maybe make everyone aware of your circumstances in case theres certain things youd rather not have the hassle of taking :)

I would have one! You'll need a lot of things for those first few months. You can always give them or sell them to other mamas when you leave. Also, if you register at buybuybaby they take pretty much anything back for store Craig even if it's used. Good luck!

I'd do it. Just ask to not be bought big items. Everyone needs to experience a baby shower!

I would still have one. After the hosing office has been contacted to see exactly what comes with your place. I'm betting not a lot of baby stuff. Even if they have baby stuff it may all be loaned out. We had our first overseas, had a small selection and not everything we needed/wanted was avail. Upside is you can use diaper and wipe coupons up to 6 months past their expiration dates.

I'm AD military... 19 years. Furnished doesn't normally mean beds cribs etc. I've lived overseas. It's more so kitchen stuff living furniture and sometimes a bed in the master bedroom. Call your housing office and get info on exactly what 'furnished' is. You may be surprised and caught off guard to what's actually there. Then plan your registry. You'd still want the bottles, linens, blankets, stroller, car seats(need to meet compliance if required I.e. Europe, for where you will live) if you really don't want one then atleast have a diaper party; ) All branches of service offer FTM classes and free gifts to new parents.

I don't know exactly where you're moving to, but I'm overseas with my husband right now and am pregnant with our first. It's a whole new culture here as far as stores and items availability, so if I could have brought things from the states, I would have! Finding supplies isn't impossible over here, but pricing is way different and finding second hand items is a lot harder. When you shop online, it takes awhile to arrive to your house and then some items won't ship international so if you did want something from the states like a glider, those are too large for target to mail over here even if you pay shipping.
